Floater Teacher - Educational Services

Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated, energetic, and flexible Floater Teacher to join our preschool program. Our school follows an art-based, Reggio Emilia-inspired curriculum that fosters creativity, inquiry, and meaningful learning experiences.
The Floater Teacher provides instructional and classroom support across multiple classrooms, ensuring continuity of high-quality care and education when teachers or assistant teachers are absent, during staff breaks, or when additional classroom support is needed. This position works collaboratively with teaching teams to maintain consistent routines, implement developmentally appropriate practices, and support children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
The Floater Teacher is expected to foster positive and effective collaboration with educational staff, families, and community partners while adhering to BHC policies and procedures, Head Start Performance Standards, NYC Department of Education requirements, Article 47 regulations, and all applicable licensing standards.
Key Responsibilities
Provide classroom coverage and instructional support in assigned classrooms throughout the school.
Maintain a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for all children.
Assist with implementing lesson plans and daily classroom routines.
Support children’s learning through developmentally appropriate activities and meaningful interactions.
Supervise children during classroom activities, meals, outdoor play, rest time, and transitions.
Assist children with personal care routines, including toileting, dressing, handwashing, and meal support as needed.
Promote positive behavior and social-emotional development using responsive guidance strategies.
Collaborate with classroom teaching teams to ensure consistency in instruction and classroom management.
Observe children’s progress and communicate relevant information to classroom teachers and administrators.
Maintain classroom organization, cleanliness, and compliance with health and safety standards. Follow all emergency procedures and ensure children’s safety at all times.
Assist with classroom setup, special events, family engagement activities, and school wide initiatives as assigned.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development, coaching sessions, and required trainings.
Participate in Parent Teacher Conferences when needed.
Qualifications & Skills
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred.
CDA Credential or willingness to obtain one preferred.
Experience working with preschool-aged children in an early childhood education setting.
Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
Ability to adapt quickly to different classrooms, teaching styles, and daily schedules.
Strong classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
CPR and First Aid Certification preferred.
NYC Food Handler’s Certification preferred.
Ability to stand, bend, lift, and actively engage with young children throughout the workday.

Salary commensurate with experience and the position will pay $43,000 - $45,000 per year.
