After-School Teacher - Educational Services

Part-time, Non-Exempt Position
Location: New York, NY (on-site)

Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate after-school teacher for our art-based and Reggio inspired Early Childhood Programs. This is an after-school program, committed to providing individualized, comprehensive educational services for children ages 2.9 to 5 years old and their families in West Harlem. The teacher manages a classroom in accordance with Head Start and Dept. of Education and Dept. of Health Performance Standards and Regulations, Board of Directors, Policy Council, and Broadway Housing Communities policies and procedures.

The lead teacher plans, organizes, and implements curriculum, completes assessments and observations, and overall classroom management. The lead teacher will also serve as a mentor and model to their assistant teacher and all of their working peers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides input on instructional matters in the classroom related to staff performance in meeting program standards.

  • Assists the education coordinator in determining what instructional supplies and materials are needed to meet the educational goals of the program.

  • Provides input on the instructional training plan's direction and leadership for its implementation.

  • Assists service area coordinators in implementing training requirements set forth in the Head Start standards for classroom staff and support personnel other than curriculum related instruction.

  • Assists service coordinators with the planning and implementation of special training activities for staff, children, parents and supporting agencies.

  • To assist with other program responsibilities, as necessary.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Compensation based on NYC (Article 47) Preschool requirements for qualified or “study plan eligible” employees.

  • Minimum requirements include:

    - Associate's (AA or AS) degree in early children education, practicum included OR
    - Ninety or more undergraduate college credits and one-year classroom experience teaching children in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten or grades 1-2 OR
    - Baccalaureate in any other academic subject and one-year classroom experience teaching children up to third grade (must be enrolled in field related program) OR
    - Related Baccalaureate or Master’s Degree in Early Childhood (pursuing Initial or Professional Teaching NYS Certification)
