To be frank, we who actually live in the vicinity of 583 Riverside Drive – as opposed to public officials who represent the area – did not want what we heard the 100-year-old building would become: some sort of housing for troubled people.

And in that regard, we were no different from others in this city – from Manhattan’s upper West Side to southeast Queens to the Brooklyn waterfront to the South Bronx – who rail against social services or even commercial projects perceived as nuisances…
