Adjaye Associates

Broadway Housing is pleased to announce the selection of the architectural and design team for The Sugar Hill Project. After a rigorous selection process, Adjaye Associates has been chosen as Designer of the building. The firm of SLCE Architects has been selected as Architects of Record.

David Adjaye is recognized as a leading British architect of his generation and has earned international acclaim from the architectural community, artists and the general public. Recent projects are The Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo and The Moscow School of Management.

Most recently, Adjaye has been selected to lead the design team for the Smithsonian Museum of African American Art and Culture on The National Mall in Washington, D.C.

SLCE Architects

SLCE Architects, one of the largest firms in NYC, has housing as the foundation of its practice, and is highly regarded for its technical prowess and successful performance within budget and time constraints. In addition, SLCE has acquired special expertise in pairing with design architects. Saky Yakas, a partner with extensive affordable housing expertise and sophistication with public funding, will lead the SLCE team on The Sugar Hill Project.

Lee H. Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership

The firm of Lee H. Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership  (LHSA+DP) has been retained to plan and design the Interpretive Visitor Experience for the children’s museum. Internationally known for its work in developing cultural experiences for families and children, this integrated design firm of architects, exhibit and graphic designers and educators is particularly noted for its work in the children’s museum field.

Design Advisory Committee

Selection of the architects was made through an RFP process to selected firms. The Project drew notable interest from the architectural community for its ambitious program and prominent signature location on the uptown Manhattan skyline. Eighteen of the twenty-four invited firms responded and presentations by seven finalists were made to our Design Advisory Committee and key stakeholders.
