28 single units
The Stella, a 28 unit single room occupancy building which had been fully rehabilitated with $1.4 million from New York City’s Supportive Housing Loan Fund, was purchased by Broadway Housing in 1988.
Broadway Housing named the building after Stella Levine, a formerly homeless woman who lived in the George Washington bus terminal prior to her moving into Broadway Housing’s first building, The Heights.
Today, many of the original tenants still live at The Stella and the cohesiveness of the community is strong and protective. The building has the most widely attended tenant meetings of all of Broadway Housing’s buildings.
