Hip Hope Teen Program

The HIP HOPE program (Helping Inspire Progress and Hope) provides highly motivated teens from Dorothy Day Apartments and the surrounding community with a structured routine of work, study and social and cultural activities. Organized collaboratively by Broadway Housing and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, HIP HOPE activities are designed to foster leadership, community service and academic excellence.

A rigorous after school program Monday through Thursday includes homework assistance, required math, reading and technology tutorials, and electives in language arts and music.

Saturdays are devoted to workshops, recreational activities and community service projects. Recent workshops have dealt with the issues of AIDS, environmental degradation in the community and conflict resolution.

Community service is an integral part of the program for which participants receive a small weekly allowance.
